The Public Sector AI Adoption Unit, a newly established team sitting within GDS leads on AI adoption across the public sector. The unit comprises multiple programmes delivering cross government AI initiatives through a test and learn approach. This role plays a critical part in coordinating the governance processes of the portfolio of digital programmes/projects, enabling them to deliver the best possible outcomes.
The job holder will establish and embed programme reporting with a focus on value added advice, early identification and resolution of risks and issues. They will also lead on the AI portfolio processes and structures needed to support a high-profile government initiative, working closely with No 10, and across departmental boundaries.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Senior Digital Portfolio Manager, you will:

  • track, analyse and help deliver outcomes for the Public Sector AI portfolio
  • give guidance and deal with issues to help teams to deliver faster
  • manage governance and assurance processes, and ensure standards are met
  • provide information to stakeholders on work performance and related risks
  • own and run the portfolio planning process, incorporating supporting strategic planning, resource management, and portfolio prioritisation
  • create, deliver and continuously improve a portfolio management service based on agile and lean principles and methodologies, including governance, control and reporting
  • manage interdependencies between all public sector AI programmes/ initiatives
  • regularly monitor the health of the portfolio, initiating re-planning and re-allocation of resources in response to learning, changes, priorities and new opportunities
  • contribute to and coordinate reporting for senior stakeholders including ministerial briefings and governance board papers
