Reporting to the VP of IP, this role blends big-picture strategic vision with real, hands-on leadership - leading the shaping portfolio strategy and operational execution while developing members of the team. The right person for this role brings sharp judgment, a bias toward action, and a track record of driving measurable improvement through smart, scalable, and data-informed processes. Here's how you'll make an impact: Elevate the team: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of patent attorneys and other IP professionals, encouraging a culture where collaboration, inclusion, continuous improvement, and thoughtful decision-making aren't just values on a wall; they're how the team operates every day. Shape the portfolio strategy - Evolve and drive Cisco's patent portfolio strategy to stay ahead of the innovation curve and strengthen competitive positioning across a rapidly shifting technology landscape. Modernize how we work - Champion and drive the adoption of data-driven, technology-enabled approaches and tools for patent development and portfolio management - including using AI where it makes sense - to unlock operational efficiency across internal teams and outside counsel. Connect the dots across the organization - Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate tools, systems, and workflows that lead to smarter, faster, and better portfolio outcomes. Be the strategic voice on IP - Serve as a trusted advisor to business and legal stakeholders on IP matters across transactions, including licensing, M&A, and partnerships - ensuring intellectual property is always part of the strategic conversation. Minimum Qualifications: 12+ years of validated experience in patent law, with a great foundation across patent prosecution, patent litigation, and/or IP strategy. Validated experience leading, managing, and developing high-performing teams of IP professionals. Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. Registered U.S. Patent Attorney in good standing with the USPTO, or the ability to obtain registration. Licensed attorney in good standing in at least one jurisdiction where Cisco does business. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location, market conditions, job-related skillset, experience, qualifications, education, certifications, and/or training. Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components, subject to the applicable Cisco plan. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows: .75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota; 1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%; 1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and Once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay 0% up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
