Description

R1 is the leading provider of technology-driven solutions that transform the patient experience and financial performance of hospitals, health systems and medical groups. We are the one company that combines the deep expertise of a global workforce of revenue cycle professionals with the industry’s most advanced technology platform, encompassing sophisticated analytics, AI, intelligent automation, and workflow orchestration.
The Senior Director, FP&A, is the senior finance leader for a suite of businesses including Denials Management, AR Follow Up, Patient Self-Pay, and Appeals (collectively, “Denials & AR”). As the Senior Director, FP&A, you will have full P&L ownership - revenue, expense and operating margin – including responsibility for forecast accuracy and making trade-offs to achieve financial commitments and optimize for future growth. This person will work with finance, operations, technology, sales and accounting business partners in the execution of these duties.
On a daily basis you will serve as part of the FP&A leadership team and are expected to help drive process improvement (administrative efficiency and improve financial insights) and foster a positive team environment. You will lead financial reporting, forecasting and staffing analysis (productivity, cost benefit, domestic vs. global). In addition, you will drive annual budgeting and long-range planning activities by providing financial visibility to drive strategic business decisions. You will be key in supporting customer growth, cost efficiency, measuring performance, understanding the revenue and margin implications of strategic actions and delivering against R1’s financial commitment.
You will lead and oversee a team with five stand-alone P&Ls that aggregate into the Denials & AR portfolio. As such, you will partner with multiple business leaders, including a direct partnership relationship with the business SVP and GM.
To thrive in this role, you will look for ways to improve current business processes through automation and standardization and you will develop and provide recommendations on revenue growth and staffing levels based on analysis of operational productivity metrics.
In this role, you will report to the SVP, Finance.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE AS THE SENIOR DIRECTOR, FP&A:

  • Partner directly with SVP and General Manager of service line as key finance leader involved in all business decisions – operations hiring, including domestic vs. global staffing and client level analysis, technology and go-to market evolution
  • Support the monthly close & forecasting process; validate and analyze results while identifying key risks and opportunities
  • Participate in activities that span across the broader R1 organization to ensure optimal decision making across the portfolio – this includes consolidated reporting and analysis, and developing ELT or BOD views as necessary
  • Lead internal and external stakeholder discussions including weekly forecast updates
  • Drive the annual budget and quarterly re-forecast processes; subject-matter-expert for all things Denials & AR related and knowledgeable in additional areas outside of your service line
  • Collaborate with accounting teams and other business partners at all levels of the organization in the analysis of financial performance
  • Provide ad hoc analysis to leadership to help articulate business performance and trends
  • Develop process solutions through automation, standardization, and innovation
  • Lead and develop two FP&A staff members (Manager and Senior Analyst) located in the US and actively drive engagement across the broader team that will look to you as a leader
  • Understand, review and track all technology investments for this business
  • Other ad hoc or as needed activities that arise

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics or equivalent
  • MBA or other advance degree a plus
  • Typically requires 10 years of Finance experience combined with supervisory or management experience
  • Prior P&L ownership a strong plus
  • Tech savvy: experience with Adaptive Insights (or other relational database) and Power BI reporting a plus
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint
  • Effective communication skills and excellent attention to detail; comfort routinely presenting to a senior-level audience
  • Strong analytical skills and decision-making abilities
  • The ability to self-motivate in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment with competing deadlines
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to work with autonomy
