QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer recommended but not required
  • Minimum of 10 years of OSP engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Experience working with rural broadband initiatives, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), or 5G backhaul projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage teams and engage with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of construction methodologies including directional boring, trenching, and aerial installation.
  • Familiarity with local and national telecommunications codes and standards.
  • Ability to take initiative & work independently with little to no direction

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Engineering at BBG is responsible for leading and managing the outside plant (OSP) engineering department, overseeing fiber network design, leading engineering teams, and ensuring projects meet technical and schedule goals. This role involves developing OSP policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with standards, fostering innovation, and providing technical oversight of all engineering design.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leadership and Management: Lead, mentor, and develop OSP engineering and project management teams, providing coaching and fostering collaboration to meet production goals.
  • Strategic Planning: Establish and direct engineering policies, objectives, and initiatives based on long-term product and profitability goals.
  • Design & Construction Oversight: Oversee and approve fiber OSP facility designs, methods, and procedures to ensure efficient and cost-effective build practices.
  • Vendor & Partner Relations: Manage relationships with design clients.
  • Project Execution: Direct day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of large-scale OSP design projects, ensuring timely delivery of network designs.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously update best practices for OSP design, construction methods, permitting, and product performance to improve operational efficiencies.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that fiber design meet engineering standards and quality control procedures through Review and mentorship of design team.
  • Documentation: Ensure the timely completion of as-built drawings and other documentation upon construction completion for accurate plant record-keeping.
  • Reporting: Provide clear communication, updates, and reports to senior management on design project status, milestones, risks, and achievements.
