QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years’ fundraising and special events experience, preferably in a large organization
  • 5 years’ experience recruiting, managing, and coaching volunteer committees to succeed and reach desired outcomes
  • Experience in managing special events and budgets
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to collaborate with the executive team.
  • Success in leading cultivation, stewardship, and renewal strategies for donors and event sponsors
  • Exceptional project management skills with adherence to timelines and strong attention to detail.
  • Must be able to travel as needed throughout the region with occasional state-wide
  • Must possess valid US driver’s license and good driving record

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with and/or passion for Special Olympics’ mission
  • Proficiency with Blackbaud communication and fundraising platforms
  • Preferred peer-to-peer fundraising experience or equivalent sales background
  • Confident, goal-oriented, positive self-starter able to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Strong communicator (written and verbal), with the ability to develop and deliver compelling presentations to corporate sponsors and donors
  • Proficient in Google and MS Office Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent contacts in the not-for-profit environment, corporations, and community are highly preferred

Responsibilities

PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Development Director provides strategic leadership and oversight to Regional Development Directors in the Northeast and Central regions. This role is instrumental in driving the organization’s peer-to-peer event fundraising strategy, managing costs effectively, and identifying and stewarding corporate constituent event sponsors at the statewide level. In addition to supporting Regional Development Directors, the Senior Development Director is accountable for achieving individual annual revenue goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Directly supervise Central and Northeast Regional Development Directors
  • Collaborate with Executive Team to develop and implement peer to peer event fundraising strategy
  • Drive revenue growth through the delivery and support of Constituent Events and other fundraising initiatives in assigned markets
  • Evaluate and support third-party events as assigned
  • Responsible for established revenue goals
  • Oversee event budgets, maximizing revenue at the lowest possible expense
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to create and support the event marketing plan
  • Prospect, cultivate, and steward constituent event statewide sponsors
  • Execute a plan for maximizing team participation to achieve revenue goals by retaining existing teams, attracting new ones from all sectors of the community, and by providing fundraising guidance and support
  • Develop and enhance best practices for peer-to-peer fundraising
  • Maintain year-round relationships with key corporate sponsors and constituents to ensure involvement in all relevant regional activities and recognition opportunities
  • Travel regularly to meet with regional staff to provide support on event planning and execution
  • Attend constituent events to offer support
  • Oversee proper use of Smartsheet in event planning
  • Other duties as assigned
