Senior Draftsperson – Miscellaneous Metals and Structural Steel Location: GTA (Brampton) Products: Railings, stairs, ladders, structural steel framing, architectural metals, canopies, and other miscellaneous metals Position Summary Reporting to the Drafting Manager or senior management, the successful candidate will prepare accurate, fabrication-ready shop drawings for miscellaneous metals and structural steel projects across residential, commercial, and institutional construction. This role requires strong knowledge of welding standards, steel detailing practices, and fabrication methods. The position works closely with estimating, project management, production, and installation teams to ensure drawings are accurate, buildable, and aligned with fabrication schedules and field conditions. The ideal candidate is practical, detail-oriented, and accountable. You understand how drawings translate directly into fabrication and site execution and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare clear, accurate shop drawings for miscellaneous metals and structural steel projects, including: Railings, guards, stairs, ladders, and platforms Structural steel framing and supports Canopies and architectural steel elements Steel connections, embeds, and field coordination details Review and interpret construction documents, specifications, and site conditions to define scope, identify conflicts, and resolve missing information. Produce and maintain: Shop drawings and revisions Material lists and fabrication details Field sketches and installation details As-built documentation Additional Responsibilities: Ensure drawings are accurate, compliant with applicable standards, and suitable for fabrication and installation. Coordinate closely with estimating, project management, production, and installation teams to support project delivery. Respond to shop and field questions promptly and update drawings as required. Participate in internal coordination meetings and attend site visits when necessary to verify field conditions. Maintain organized drawing files and revision control. Contribute to improving drafting standards, templates, and workflows. Standards & Technical Requirements Education Technical diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or equivalent industry experience. Strong working knowledge of: CSA welding standards and symbols 2012 and 2025 Ontario Building Code Structural steel and miscellaneous metals detailing Shop fabrication methods and tolerances Construction sequencing and installation coordination Minimum 7–10 years drafting experience in miscellaneous metals or structural steel. Advanced proficiency in: AutoCAD (required) Bluebeam (required) Experience with: Tekla Structures (strong asset) Fabrication shop environments Welding and steel detailing standards Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining drawing accuracy. Additional Qualifications: Strong understanding of GTA construction practices and coordination requirements. Proven ability to read and interpret full construction document sets. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable. Strong problem-solving skills and practical construction awareness. Clear communication skills and professional presence. Comfortable working in a hands-on fabrication environment. Requirements Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Ability to work in person at our facility.
