Are you a talented Senior Civil Engineer looking for your next exciting opportunity? We’re recruiting on behalf of an established infrastructure team that is seeking an all-rounder to help tackle a growing workload of highways projects. This role offers the chance to work on a mix of public highway and on-site projects, with a focus on highway design and the opportunity to learn drainage design.
If you’re looking for a role where you can work both independently and alongside junior engineers, contribute to high-profile projects, and develop your skills, this could be a fantastic opportunity for you. Our client works with private developers, public bodies, and contractors, so you’ll get exposure to a wide range of projects in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on a variety of highway design and drainage design projects, ensuring high standards and timely delivery
  • Take instruction from senior team members while working independently or leading junior staff
  • Manage multiple projects, providing technical guidance and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and standards
  • Be involved in project proposals, ongoing project management, and deliver projects within budget
  • Attend client meetings and represent the company in a client-facing role
  • Actively contribute to improving the skills and knowledge of junior team members

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • At least 5 years of experience working in a UK consultancy, particularly in highway and drainage design
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • A solid understanding of highway design standards and guidelines, including DMRB and local authority guidelines
  • Excellent multitasking skills with the ability to manage a portfolio of projects
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with design teams, clients, and contractors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Chartered status, or working towards chartership, is welcomed but not essential

Specific Experience:

You should have technical experience in several aspects of civil engineering design, including:

  • Section 278 / 38 Highway Designs
  • Designing residential estate roads and commercial/industrial access
  • Ground Modelling and earthworks design
  • Pavement design
  • Liaising with planning authorities, statutory undertakers, and National Highways
  • Multidisciplinary design delivery

Knowledge of Site3D, Infodrainage, flood risk assessments, sustainable urban drainage strategies (SuDS), and foul and storm water drainage is beneficial, though not essential.
