JOB SUMMARY

As a senior member of the Civil Asset Planning team, we are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Drainage Infrastructure Engineer to lead the strategic direction of Council’s stormwater and drainage service planning. This is a key role that will shape the future of drainage infrastructure across the municipality by developing and delivering robust policies, asset management plans, and project frameworks that respond to current and future needs. The role provides specialist technical leadership in flood management, drainage systems, and stormwater planning, supporting effective and sustainable outcomes for both urban and rural communities.

  • A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, with eligibility for registration under the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019.
  • Experience in drainage design, flood modelling, WSUD, and drainage construction and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems and infrastructure planning.
  • Local Government experience is desirable.
  • Proficient in stormwater modelling software such as MUSIC.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-organised with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Holds a current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Council’s Civil Asset Planning team is seeking a Senior Drainage Infrastructure Engineer who will be responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of drainage and stormwater-related engineering services across Baw Baw Shire Council and the broader community.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing expert technical advice on stormwater, drainage, and flooding issues to internal teams, the community, and external stakeholders
  • Leading the planning and management of Council’s drainage infrastructure, including swales, underground drains, wetlands, retarding basins, and bioretention systems
  • Developing and implementing drainage-related policies, asset management plans, and long-term strategies to support sustainable service delivery
  • Scoping, costing, and prioritising drainage projects to align with Council’s Long-Term Infrastructure Plan
  • Preparing funding applications for drainage and flood mitigation works, and contributing to relevant strategies and studies
  • Administering Council’s responsibilities under the Water Act and Victorian Rural Drainage Strategy, and representing Council at public meetings, committees, and agency forums

The Senior Drainage Infrastructure Engineer plays a key role in ensuring Council’s stormwater assets are well planned, compliant, and future ready. This role involves working collaboratively with Melbourne Water, the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, consultants, and internal stakeholders to deliver integrated drainage solutions that enhance liveability and environmental resilience across both urban and rural areas of the municipality.
