Description
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent the Senior Drill & Blast Engineer is responsive for ensuring the effective completion of all drill and blast plans consistent to short-term mine planning activities for day-to-day pit operations, including scheduling, reconciliation, reporting, conduct of meetings and supervision of graduate and Drill & Blast Engineers.  Critical to this role is also to undertake drill and blast design improvements that will minimise ore dilution, reduce wall damages, reduce cost, and improve productivity while at the same time providing sufficient blasted stocks for digging. Adherence to all statutory requirements and Company Safety, Health and Environmental standards and procedures is paramount to this role. Location: Hidden Valley Mine, Papua New Guinea Roster: 16 days on / 12 days off (FIFO)   Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. In Australia, Harmony owns the high-grade CSA copper mine in Cobar, NSW and is constructing the Eva Copper Mine in Cloncurry, QLD with first production targeted for the second half of the 2028 calendar year. These assets are supported by the Harmony Australasia regional corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Responsibilities
The Senior Drill & Blast Engineer ensures the effective completion of all drill and blast plans aligned with short-term mine planning for daily pit operations, including scheduling, reconciliation, reporting, and supervision of junior engineers. A critical function is undertaking design improvements to minimize ore dilution, reduce wall damage, lower costs, and boost productivity while ensuring sufficient blasted stocks for digging.
