SENIOR ECOLOGIST

Location: Home-based (West Surrey/Guildford/Northern Hampshire)
Salary: £40,000–£45,000 (dependent on experience) + company van/allowance & benefits
Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday–Friday
Travel: Required—full, clean UK driving licence essential
About the Role
A great opportunity to join a professional environmental consultancy, providing advisory services to diverse clients across sectors such as infrastructure, local authorities, and private developments. This role involves project management, ecological surveys, fieldwork, and technical reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage protected species surveys (including bats)
  • Act as Ecological Clerk of Works, ensuring compliance with legislation
  • Conduct habitat surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments
  • Produce technical reports and assist with mitigation licences
  • Support project management from conception to completion
  • Provide guidance to junior colleagues

Essential Requirements

  • Level 1 Bat Licence (working towards Level 2)
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in ecological/environmental field
  • Strong knowledge of ecology, legislation, and planning processes
  • Experience with PEA/Phase 1 habitat surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Competence in ecological project and client management
  • Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate/Full CIEEM membership (or working towards)
  • Experience in protected species licences & technical reporting
  • GIS skills for habitat mapping
