PPG Aerospace, global leader in advanced aircraft windshields and windows to commercial, regional, military, and general aviation sectors, is seeking a talented Electrical Engineer to join our Transparency Design and Development team. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will drive the design and development of cutting-edge heating systems for aircraft windshields across all existing platforms, utilizing glass, acrylic, and polycarbonate substrates with advanced-technology coatings, liners, and interlayers for optimal performance, weight reduction, and extended service life. You will collaborate with customers to define electrical interfaces tailored to diverse aircraft architectures, ensuring seamless integration and precise power delivery. Leveraging your expertise in thermal analysis—using specialized analysis tools and industry software platforms such as Altair for transient analysis—you will ensure windshields meet defogging and anti-icing requirements under FAR 25 Appendix C and Appendix O. Working with multi-layered materials and edge attachments for load-carrying capabilities, you will provide innovative solutions, support cross-functional teams including structural analysts, and contribute to PPG’s legacy of revolutionary advancements in aerospace transparency technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Requires a degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in electrical design, thermal analysis or similar experience, preferably in aerospace applications.
• Or advanced degree (PHD/Masters) with 3+ years of similar experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software is required.
• Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling is a plus.
• Experience with SolidWorks PDM or similar is a plus.
• Experience with Altair Embed, ANSYS Thermal Desktop, ANSYS CFD or similar tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with DO-160 Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment is a plus.
• This position requires U.S. citizenship or Lawful permanent residents due to federal export control regulations (ITAR)

• Collaborate with customers to define the electrical interface of aircraft windshield heating systems.
• Develop design requirements for windshield heating systems, encompassing system design, component design, and design for manufacturability.
• Apply PPG’s diverse heating system technologies for AC or DC voltage-based aircraft.
• Conduct thermal analysis to ensure full defogging of cockpit windows and anti-icing of external surfaces during flight, meeting FAR 25 Appendix C and Appendix O standards.
• Support production personnel in the correct use of electrical measuring equipment.
• Provide technical assistance to product support teams on electrical system inquiries for in-service transparencies.
• Assist qualification test engineers with electrical setup for window testing.
• Engage with customers, sales, product support engineering, program management, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory agencies.
• Actively participate in PPG’s New Product Introduction (NPI) process, contributing to Technical Reviews and Management Gate Reviews, including New Program Selection Meetings.
• Stay informed on industry trends, government regulations, customer requirements, and PPG Aerospace Transparency’s manufacturing processes to provide actionable recommendations.
