Description This is a full-time, direct placement role at Resource Consulting Engineers, LLC. Resource Consulting Engineers, LLC is a Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Consulting Engineering firm, primarily focused on services related to building analysis, design, and construction administration services. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for performing and/or overseeing all aspects of electrical systems design for our projects. Future oversight of other electrical engineering personnel is also likely. The ideal candidate is expected to take a leadership role within the firm, and will work directly with clients, performing both technical engineering and project management roles. About the Role We're hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer (5+ years experience) for our Ames or West Des Moines office. You'll lead electrical design for education and civic projects, working directly with clients and project teams. At 10 people growing to 20+, early team members shape our future leadership. Responsibilities Lead electrical design for K-12 schools, higher education facilities, and civic buildings across Iowa. Work directly with clients and architects, managing projects from concept through construction. Typical projects include: Power distribution and lighting design for school additions and renovations Low-voltage systems (fire alarm, security, communications) for campus facilities Electrical infrastructure for university research and classroom buildings Energy-efficient lighting upgrades for government facilities Coordinate with our mechanical engineers, review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs during construction, and mentor junior staff as we grow. This isn't production drafting - it's full-cycle project leadership. Qualifications Professional Engineer license in Iowa (or ability to obtain within 6 months) 5+ years designing electrical systems for buildings Experience with power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems Proficiency in Revit for electrical design Strong communication skills for client interaction and team coordination Required Skills Professional Engineer license in Iowa or Nebraska (or ability to obtain within 6 months) 5+ years designing electrical systems for buildings Experience with power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems Proficiency in Revit for electrical design Strong communication skills for client interaction and team coordination Preferred Skills K-12 or higher education project experience Familiarity with Iowa energy code and AHJ requirements LEED or sustainable design experience Willingness to mentor junior engineers Pay range and compensation package Market-rate compensation with actual work-life balance.
