1. Job Overview:
1.1 General Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer (Substation) with extensive experience in UAE/GCC markets and a strong background in solar power projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, supervision, testing, and commissioning of HV/MV substations, ensuring compliance with international standards and local regulations. Experience in renewable energy (solar PV) and grid integration is essential.

2.1 Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Engineering:
  • Lead the design and review of HV/MV substations (AIS/GIS) for solar power plants and grid connections.
  • Prepare single-line diagrams (SLD), protection schemes, layout drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, DEWA, ADDC, SEC, KAHRAMAA, and other GCC utility standards.
  • Project Execution & Supervision:
  • Oversee construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of substations for solar and conventional power projects.
  • Manage contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure timely and quality delivery.
  • Conduct load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination studies (using ETAP, DIgSILENT, or similar).
  • Solar Power Integration:
  • Design and optimize substations for solar PV plants, including grid interconnection solutions.
  • Coordinate with SCADA, protection, and control systems for renewable energy projects.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to inverter-based generation (IBG) and grid stability.
  • Testing & Commissioning:
  • Witness and approve FAT, SAT, and site acceptance tests for transformers, switchgear, relays, and protection systems.
  • Ensure compliance with UAE/GCC grid codes for renewable energy integration.
  • Documentation & Compliance:
  • Prepare technical reports, method statements, and as-built drawings.
  • Ensure adherence to HSE regulations, NESC, and local authority requirements.

3.1 Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred).
  • Minimum [X] years in substation projects, with UAE/GCC experience.
  • Experience in solar power projects (utility-scale solar farms, IPPs, or BESS).
  • Proficiency in ETAP, AutoCAD, PSCAD, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61850, IEC 62271, and GCC utility standards.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CEng, Chartered Engineer) are a plus.
  • Worked with DEWA, ADDC, SEC, KAHRAMAA, or other GCC utilities.
  • Familiarity with EPC contractors, consultants, or developers in the solar energy sector.
  • Exposure to BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) integration.
