THE ROLE: SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.
In this position you will supervise our engineering consultants as they design our facilities to ensure they comply with our standards. You’ll help lead our standards and process development while qualifying the equipment we use. You will identify areas of opportunity in our designs and create mechanisms to ensure our future designs evolve. You will be part of a tight knit team, relied upon to independently finish tasks while providing support for team members. You will be working with other internal teams, external engineering consultants, equipment vendors and manufacturers, utilities, inspectors, and contractors.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Write and present technical papers to customers, leadership, and peers.
  • Act as a leader and solve problems while being willing to learn from others.
  • Independently research new technologies and develop new solutions for data center electrical designs.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects designed by external consultants.
  • Be a leader in the Hyperscale Data Center Design Engineering team, supporting the design and development of data center infrastructure.
  • Author, review and issue RFP’s for external design consultants.
  • Work with vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes in various jurisdictions.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Hyperscale Basis of Design.
  • Develop and maintain design standards and specification templates.
  • Assess engineering calculation assumptions and evaluate engineering design options.
  • Review campus utility and site layouts during master planning.
  • Manage our external Design Consultants through all phases of projects.
  • Collaborate with relevant Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and Utilities.
  • Coordinate with internal and external MEP Engineers, Construction Managers, and other related disciplines.
  • Identify and spearhead initiatives to improve cost, quality, schedule, and consistency across sites.
  • Travel for site assessments, consultant selection activities, internal design meetings, construction review, interface with AHJs, design consultants, quantity surveyors, and building owners.
