JOB DESCRIPTION

AECOM’s Markham office is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing water and wastewater electrical team in the Water Group. The Water group is a vibrant and growing business line which delivers Engineering, architectural and project management services as well as planning and economic analysis for vertical construction projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to, water / wastewater facilities, commercial, institutional, healthcare, pharmaceutical and transit facilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
  • A minimum of eight (8)+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry, preferably in water and wastewater infrastructure engineering sector.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with OESC, OBC, IEEE, NFPA, ASHRAE, CSA and other industry standards and codes
  • Experience in leading electrical design as an electrical lead engineer in water & wastewater projects
  • Experience in designing electrical power systems including MV and LV distribution, plant substation c/w power sources of standby generator(s) and or Co-generator(s), switchgear breaker operation and control schematic, protection relay I/O wiring diagram, substation transformer protection and monitoring, MV and LV motor control schematics with VFD and or Soft Starter to various process and HVAC system PCN requirements
  • Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP and experience of performing system studies including Short Circuit and Protection Coordination Study, Arc-Flash Hazard Analysis and Harmonic study, Load-flow Study
  • Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
  • Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within the Electrical team
  • Sound judgment supported by excellent technical, analytical root causes and problem-solving skills
  • Additional certifications such as PMP, LEED etc. are a bonus
  • Experience with Instrumentation and Control system design is a plus
  • Experience with IES energy modeling tool is desirable
  • Some Project Management experience and training desired
  • Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work well with others both internally and externally
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality

Responsibilities
  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Developing various types of reports including technical memorandum, design development, facility electrical system assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents.
  • Preparing electrical design reports, drawings, specifications and cost estimate throughout the primary design and detail design stages.
  • Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail MV and LV power distributions, process mechanical equipment control schematics, lighting and controls,, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecomm., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)
  • Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
  • Conduct site inspections to obtain field As-Built data and conditions.
  • Work with electrical equipment manufacturers and suppliers to obtain all necessary industrial design data and incorporate into the design drawings and specifications.
  • Ensuring design conforms with all applicable codes and standards.
  • Attendance to various stage project meetings involving clients, consultants and contractors. Provide technical supports to the project managers, responding to technical queries.
  • Coordinate with local hydro utility service suppliers for incoming power services.
  • Construction administration responsibilities:
  • Attending site inspection, meetings and site reviews complete with reports.
  • Review shop drawing and answer Contractor RFIs.
  • SI and CCN preparations.
  • Contractor change quotation reviews.
  • Progress billing reviews.
  • Supervision of FAT and SAT and electrical system commissioning.
