Description Job Description – Senior Project Manager Job Title: Senior Project Manager Department/Business Unit: Operations Reports To: Operations Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Salary: Based on Merit Purpose of Job The Senior Project Manager provides overall management direction for complex electrical construction projects and supports the development of new business opportunities with clients, client groups, geographic markets, and project types, typically within healthcare, higher education, manufacturing, and rail. Primary Responsibilities Provide primary project leadership for assigned projects in partnership with the designated project superintendent. Evaluate project scope, plan and organize project execution, and coordinate staffing of key project positions with regional department heads, subordinate project managers, general superintendents, and other project leadership. Analyze project alternatives, including material specifications and preliminary construction methods, to determine optimal construction techniques. Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within GNS corporate policy. Initiate and maintain relationships with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors to support successful construction activities. Negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontracts. Monitor and control project development through administrative oversight of the on-site project superintendent. Prepare, issue, and update master project schedules and variance reports to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. Manage contract financials, including costs, billings, and collections, to maintain profitability goals, positive cash flow, and strong client relationships. Create measurable project budgets and track costs throughout the life of each project in coordination with the project superintendent. Control material purchases and rentals within budget through effective buyout processes. Ensure project document controls comply with contract requirements and GNS standards, including use of GNS workbooks and SOPs. Maintain project schedules and document delays in accordance with contract requirements. Manage project risks, assess alternatives to resolve system coordination issues, and implement corrective measures as needed. Prepare RFIs for clarification and actively pursue additional work through change orders. Attend job progress meetings as required. Develop and maintain long-term relationships with customers, consultants, general contractors, and subcontractors. Supervise and mentor project managers and assistant project managers when assigned. Perform additional assignments as requested or needed. Procure, transfer, and log all necessary project tools through the Tool Manager. Ensure project specifications are followed when procuring and installing materials. Maintain overall accuracy of project layouts, including BIM coordination and 2D shop drawings, in collaboration with the superintendent, BIM coordinator, and/or BIM subcontractor. Travel Requirements Up to 100% travel may be required and may vary significantly by individual and project assignment. Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience 15+ years of experience and knowledge in construction design, finance, and management. Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, and their impact on project activities. Strong project management skills, including documentation, cost control, procurement, scheduling, negotiation, and change order management, including pricing. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and influence. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Advanced problem-solving, scheduling, and cost-control abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and the ability and willingness to learn new software systems. Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee and project performance. Physical and Other Demands This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be willing to work in restricted areas, including switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, and similar spaces. Must wear required personal protective equipment, including hard hat and safety glasses at all times, and a respirator when required. Must be willing to work 50+ hours per week and weekends as required, with workdays beginning at 6:30 a.m. Must be able to work in noisy environments.
