JOB OVERVIEW

Powercon Corp is a leading switchgear manufacturing company dedicated to providing high-quality electrical solutions.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in electrical principles and demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of electrical and electronic systems. This role requires hands-on experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs), printed circuit boards (PCBs), and general industrial electrical equipment. This role requires spending approximately 50–60% of your time in a hands-on shop environment, performing equipment testing on the floor in varying temperature conditions, including both hot and cold environments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience and certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Electrical Technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic systems.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), including installation, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in working with Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), including soldering, desoldering, and component replacement.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety procedures and lock-out/tag-out protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with various test equipment, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and megohmmeters.
  • Basic understanding of PLC operation and troubleshooting (specific PLC brands can be mentioned if relevant).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various physical conditions (e.g., confined spaces, elevated platforms) as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (OPTIONAL):

  • Certification in a relevant electrical or electronics field.
  • Experience with specific control systems or machinery used in your industry.
  • Knowledge of network communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on electrical systems, electronic components, and control circuits to identify faults and determine root causes and repair.
  • Repair, replace, and calibrate electrical and electronic equipment, including motors, sensors, wiring, and control panels.
  • Install, program, and maintain Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for various applications, ensuring optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to facilitate installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational reliability.
  • Solder and de-solder components on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), and perform board-level repairs as needed.
  • Work with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) for troubleshooting and minor programming adjustments.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant electrical codes, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately, including parts used, time spent, and issues resolved.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve complex electrical issues and implement system improvements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all safety protocols.
  • Provide technical support and training to less experienced technicians as required.
