Owning the embedded software architecture of the system across the control, power and thermal subsystems
Leading RTOS-based real-time control development, including timing analysis and fail-safe behaviour for launch and recovery sequences
Owning the low-level integration layer: CAN, UART, SPI, I²C, sensor drivers, and motor and actuator control
Designing and owning the firmware side of the command and control (C2) interface, including secure command handling and telemetry
Establishing the secure firmware lifecycle: secure boot, signed images, field update strategy and rollback
Building out embedded test infrastructure — unit test, hardware-in-the-loop, automated regression and continuous integration for firmware
Running FMEA on software-controlled functions and driving firmware work packages
Setting coding, review and release standards
Your profile
10+ years in embedded software for real-time, safety-relevant or mission-critical systems — defence, aerospace, automotive, robotics or industrial control
Expert C and C++ on resource-constrained targets, with deep RTOS experience (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX or equivalent)
Strong hardware affinity: you read schematics, use a scope and logic analyser, and debug at register level
Production experience across CAN, UART, SPI and I²C, and with STM32, ESP32 or comparable MCU families
Track record building test and CI infrastructure for embedded work, not only features
