Description

ABOUT THE JOB.

As a Senior Lawyer within the Employment Legal Team, you will advise on all aspects of employment law to National Highways. This is a diverse role and provides an excellent opportunity to apply your specialist employment legal knowledge and skills to support a large national employer in an inhouse environment. You will work as a trusted advisor and partner to all specialisms within the HR team to support their work as well as ensuring that any employment legal risks and challenges are managed appropriately.

  • Providing specialist employment legal advice to human resources and managers across National Highways. This advice will span the whole remit of employment legal work but will particularly focus on support to the employee relations team dealing with HR processes including disciplinary, grievance, performance and attendance management.
  • Managing complex employment tribunal claims against National Highways independently.
  • Providing training and updates to the HR team on developments in employment law.
  • Providing direction and legal support/supervision to more junior members of the team.
  • Work with and oversee the work of external contracted lawyers to ensure the work is carried out appropriately and to the standards expected.

ABOUT US.

Here at National Highways, we manage and improve England’s motorways and major A roads, helping our customers have safer, smoother and more reliable journeys. Our priorities are safety, customers and delivery, and at the core of this, are our values of passion, integrity, safety, teamwork and ownership.
Legal Services encompasses both the National Highways legal team and the company secretariat. Our aim is to provide the organisation with an effective legal service and support the Board, Chief Executive, and its committees on a wide range of issues. We offer strategic legal advice on commercial, planning, operational, highways, employment, regulatory, and property matters, ensuring legal compliance and minimising exposure to risk.
External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
We are committed to creating a diverse environment and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
