We are seeking an enthusiastic, results-oriented individual whose engineering expertise and data management skills will help the division’s investment planning team deliver on key objectives.
The Ministry of Transportation continues to enhance and improve its decision-making processes in order to efficiently and effectively manage the provincial highway network.
Please Note: Alternate work locations may be considered

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

  • You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE:

  • You have advanced knowledge of highway engineering theories and practices related to planning, design, construction, rehabilitation, maintenance and operation.
  • You have knowledge of asset management principles and processes, including needs assessment, prioritization, optimization and life cycle costing.
  • You have knowledge in the application of state-of-the-art computer technology, software and data management techniques to maintain, extract, analyze and report information related to highway infrastructure.

ANALYTICAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS:

  • You have proven analytical and evaluative skills to review technical data, policies and reports, draw conclusions and provide recommendations, including financial implications.
  • You have planning and organizational skills to support the Ministry’s asset management program, including capital needs analysis for the Annual Strategic Planning Process (SPP).

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • You have interpersonal skills to lead, consult, promote and support partnerships among stakeholders and staff.
  • You have written communication skills to prepare guidelines, reports, correspondence, briefing notes, and detailed project proposals.
  • You have oral communication skills to provide technical advice and training, and to participate on committees and task forces.

Responsibilities
  • Support long-term planning by providing engineering advice for road and highway projects, including repairs and expansions.
  • Manage projects and consultants, including writing contracts, setting budgets and timelines, and reviewing work and invoices — especially for the system that tracks infrastructure assets.
  • Help with asset management by guiding how data on roads and bridges is collected, stored, and analyzed, and by working with both internal teams and outside organizations.
  • Analyze data to find what infrastructure needs fixing, understand the impact on the business, and suggest actions to senior leaders.
  • Support budgeting and planning by helping with investment plans, annual budget submissions, and performance tracking.
  • Work with different departments and ministries to improve the management of infrastructure
