Job Description: Microchip has an opportunity for a Senior Engineer I-Safety (Senior Safety and Health Engineer) in the Environmental, Health and Safety department at our Fab 4 facility in Gresham, Oregon. This position will also provide occasional support to our site in Bend, Oregon. The Senior Safety and Health Engineer leads all aspects of risk-based safety and industrial health programs, serving as the primary contact for compliance and regulatory agency interactions. The position requires expertise in safety regulations and experience in semiconductor, electronics manufacturing, or other chemically intensive industries. This position will also assist in leading the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT). The Senior Safety and Health Engineer works in fabrication, industrial, and administrative settings, performing both administrative tasks (technical writing, data analysis) and fieldwork (inspections, spill response). Collaboration with Environmental, Facilities, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and other teams is essential to implement procedures and training aligned with Microchip policies. Building effective relationships with management, employees, community representatives, and regulators is key. Essential Functions Drive safety and health performance and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. Oversee development, planning, and implementation of safety and health programs, including OSHA policies and prevention initiatives. Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies. Manage safety committee meetings and participate in corporate safety/health initiatives. Develop and deliver required safety training across all facility levels. Conduct audits and inspections to ensure facility and employee safety. Lead and participate in ERT and MERT activities, including training and procedure implementation. Communicate safety-related events and updates to management, ensuring root causes and corrective actions are identified and implemented. Track nonconformance and employee-reported issues to completion. Lead hazard identification, evaluation, control, and risk assessments. Manage safety and industrial hygiene equipment and perform monitoring as needed. Flex schedule to support 24/7 operations, including occasional nights and weekends. Requirements/Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes and regulations, including and NFPA. Expertise in safety and health management, including OSHA provisions, industrial hygiene, electrical safety, ergonomics, emergency response, fire protection, and construction safety. Ability to apply safety, health, and regulatory knowledge to business decisions and develop implementation plans. Strong change management, project management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams and run effective meetings. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Science, Engineering, Occupational Health, or related field. 4+ years of safety and health experience in semiconductor, electronics manufacturing, or other chemically intensive industries. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications CIH, CSP, PE, or other relevant certifications. Critical Physical Requirements Able to lift, push, pull 50 lbs; carry 50 lbs; sit 30%; stand 30%; walk 40%; must be able to perform activities that include stooping, reaching, handling, thinking, hearing, talking, seeing, work alone, work around others. Must be able to pass a Physical and Respirator Fit Test Must maintain physical requirements for wearing SCBA full face mask level Must be able to work at heights (cat walks, ladders, roof, tanks…) This is a Safety Sensitive position.
