Description

The Senior Engineer, Naval Architecture – Concept Design, is responsible for completing naval architecture activities within the Concept Design team at Seaspan Shipyards. Under the direction of the Director – Concept Design; the Senior Engineer, Naval Architecture participates in the development of new concept designs, including hull form development, stability, powering & resistance, and hydrodynamic analyses.

Responsibilities
  • Provides engineering and design expertise in assigned areas of Naval Architecture by preparing and reviewing design and calculation packages to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Designs and optimizes ship hull forms and general arrangements.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical and electrical engineers on developing power and propulsion architecture.
  • Performs Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses for optimizing hull appendages and propulsion arrangements.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to other junior engineers, designers or subcontractors in the areas of naval architecture and structural design.
  • Develops and/or reviews design documents for fisheries, icebreaking and naval vessels in order to achieve customer, Classification Society and regulatory approval.
  • Performs trade studies both formal and informal to determine the most cost-effective solutions to engineering problems and meet material budgets for systems assigned. Identifies opportunities to reduce material costs below budget.
  • Represents the company to industry to develop understanding of Seaspan’s involvement in the National Shipbuilding Strategy and continue to build our reputation.
