Description
Job Description Summary The Senior Engineer – Power electronics & systems will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and integration of high-efficiency power conversion systems (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC). This role bridges the gap between hardware circuit design and system-level architecture, ensuring that individual components like inverters or converters function seamlessly within a larger grid, or industrial infrastructure and will play a pivotal role in leading Power electronics team of our solar, battery storage and other renewable/ industrial solutions. You will engage a team of engineers in mentoring, exploring various Power electronics designs, by validating cutting-edge technologies that can enhance our existing products or develop entirely new ones. Job Description Main Responsibilities Foresee new technologies, improve the current design, create a value proposition and USP for our products by implementing latest methodologies System Architecture & Design: Defining high-level requirements for power systems and choosing optimal topologies (e.g., resonant, bi-directional, or multi-level converters) to meet performance and efficiency targets. Hardware Development: Designing power stages using advanced semiconductors like SiC (Silicon Carbide) or GaN (Gallium Nitride), selecting magnetic components, and overseeing high-power PCB layout. Modeling & Simulation: Validating designs through detailed circuit and system simulations using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, or LTspice. Control Systems: Developing and implementing digital control algorithms (e.g., PID, MPPT, or state-space control) on microcontrollers (MCU), DSPs, or FPGAs. Testing & Validation: Leading lab and field testing, including EMI/EMC compliance, thermal management, and safety certification Identify potential areas for innovation that address industry needs and challenges. Ability to showcase program executed on time and complete all design review Define the application requirements, architecture, specification and/or design and validation of inverter drive systems and auxiliary control architectures. Develop ownership for next generation topologies and implementation. Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures Qualifications/Requirements Bachelors / Master of Engineering in EEE/ Electronics and Communication or related fields with 15 + years of engineering experience or PhD (from reputed institute) and very strong academic score and knowledge with 0-2 years on Power electronics and Electrical design. Specific expertise knowledge in deriving mathematical expressions, deep knowledge in sizing and selecting semiconductors will be a preference Strong knowledge on multi-level inverter control, PWM strategies, stability analysis and will be preferred Experience in AI/ML tools and software would be an added advantage. Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and Customer sites Learning and continuous development: Stay updated on the latest technological advancements from universities, research centers, and industry publications. Identify promising technologies with potential applications in solar and battery storage power systems. Analyze and define the technical feasibility and benefits of integrating these technologies into existing systems. Showcase knowledge in existing products and ability to demonstrate the design changes and modifications Desired Characteristics Strong knowledge of Drive control Software Development & qualification for renewables Experience with system level validation testing Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools, PSCAD, MATLAB, etc Good oral and written communication skills Good interpersonal and leadership skills Should be able to lead multiple projects and collaborate with global teams Abbreviations: SW – Software NPI – New Product Introduction OTR – Order to Remittance FPGA – Field Programmable Gate Array VHDL – Very high-speed Integrated circuits Hardware Description Language PWM – Pulse Width Modulation PLC – Programmable Logic Controller EGD – Ethernet Global Data OPCUA - Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture HDL - Hardware description language PSCAD - Power systems computer-aided design USP – Unique selling proposition Additional Information Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes Addressing the climate crisis is an urgent global priority and we take our responsibility seriously. That is our singular mission at GE Vernova: continuing to electrify the world while simultaneously working to help decarbonize it. If we want our energy future to be different…we must be different. Our mission is embedded in our name. We retain our treasured legacy, “GE,” in our name as an enduring and hard-earned badge of quality and ingenuity. “Ver” / “verde” signal Earth’s verdant and lush ecosystems. “Nova,” from the Latin “novus,” nods to a new, innovative era of lower carbon energy that GE Vernova will help deliver.
