Description

Job title: Senior Engineer (Refrigeration system)Location : East Moline, ILPosition: Long term contractKey Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for multiple refrigeration-focused programs from concept to production.
  • Define and implement system architectures that support high efficiency and cost-effectiveness while aligning with environmental and regulatory trends.
  • Help shape long-term refrigeration strategies, including refrigerant selection and system innovation.
  • Translate functional product needs into robust, testable engineering requirements and oversee reliability validation.
  • Collaborate across design, controls, manufacturing, and compliance teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Engage with external suppliers to manage technical aspects of component sourcing and qualification.
  • Oversee schedules, risk assessments, and team resources to meet project milestones.
  • Represent the refrigeration function in internal reviews and executive updates.
  • Coach junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Evaluate and implement new tools, methods, and refrigerants (particularly low-GWP options like A2L and A3) to drive advancement in system performance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • At least 7–10 years of engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in refrigeration system design and integration.
  • Demonstrated success managing end-to-end refrigeration projects from design through launch.
  • Strong technical foundation in vapor compression cycles, component selection, thermodynamics, and refrigerant characteristics.
  • Experience with flammable refrigerants (A2L/A3) and safety protocol compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and align teams with business goals.
  • Familiarity with system design principles including airflow, static pressure, superheat, subcooling, and overall energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as UL60335-1, UL60335-2-89, and NSF.
  • Experience generating and reviewing technical documents like DFMEAs, validation plans, and test protocols.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills for mentoring, cross-team collaboration, and supplier engagement.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Hands-on experience with prototype system builds, testing, refrigerant charge tuning, and debugging.
  • Experience with lab testing tools and data acquisition for performance evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of simulation and modeling tools (e.g., REFPROP, EES, CFD software, or SolidWorks Flow).
  • Awareness of international regulations and environmental standards related to refrigerants (e.g., EPA SNAP, EU F-Gas).
  • Background in integrating smart/embedded control systems with refrigeration technology.
