Caterpillar’s Resource Industries Division is currently seeking a Sr Test/Validation Engineer to support electrification product development at the Caterpillar Tucson Proving Ground. In this role, you will perform engineering assignments while building a working knowledge of Caterpillar and Caterpillar products, technologies, processes, services, and systems. Activities are focused on full-scale testing of mining and construction equipment and technology to ensure that products perform as intended and meet customer requirements.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other accredited engineering curriculum.

WHAT SKILLS YOU WILL HAVE:

Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

  • Tests components for compliance with functional requirements and established conventions.
  • Documents test process and results; prepares and analyzes defect-tracking reports.
  • Summarizes features of a specific product-testing process and associated procedures.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a testing environment.

  • Troubleshoots typical technical problems related to performance and machine functionality.
  • Work with tools such as CAT ET, CANape, Cadet to flash and control machine functionality.

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Uses a structured approach in analyzing and resolving technical problems.
  • Innovate procedures to determine root cause or provide additional information that can help our partners diagnose root cause.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems.

SUMMARY PAY RANGE:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute testing of mining and construction equipment and technology. Validate that new products and updated products meet engineering requirements.
  • Make safety and health a priority during all work (and home) activities. Engage in Caterpillar’s culture of safety and participate in efforts and activities to continuously improve the safety of operations.
  • Create project plans for test activity, write work instructions, manage and participate in building and modification of mining machines, outline instrumentation requirements for testing, conduct testing, analyze test results, communicate findings, and write technical summary reports.
  • Apply technical skills to develop and validate any machine systems and subsystems focusing on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronics, and software.
  • Use engineering systems to look up drawings, specifications, and solid models. Use software like Excel, Tableau, DATK to analyze test data. Use MS Office applications to create effective technical and communication documents.
  • Work with other engineers, technologists, mechanics, instrumentation technicians, operators, and logisticians in a collaborative team environment to complete complex tasks safely, with the highest quality, while meeting project schedules and budgets.
  • Apply knowledge of machines and machine systems to perform troubleshooting of malfunctioning components, systems, and machines.
  • Learn the fundamentals of mining equipment operations and maintenance. Learn through on-the-job training to operate mining equipment.
  • Provide ideas for continuous improvement (CI) to the safety, quality, velocity, and cost of engineering and operations at the proving ground. Aid supervisor in the implementation of CI ideas.
