Senior Engineer to Principal Engineer (Artificial intelligence)

The AI Engineer will lead the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI applications to address key challenges in the maritime and offshore industries. This role involves creating AI-driven solutions for advanced computational modeling and large-scale natural language processing. You will be part of the ABS Singapore Innovation and Research Center, contributing to our global technology initiatives and supporting ABS’s mission of enhancing safety and operational excellence. You are expected to possess a strong blend of technical expertise, practical experience, and innovative thinking to develop robust AI solutions tailored to classification society needs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD is preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in AI/ML development and deployment, preferably in a relevant field.
• Solid understanding of the maritime and offshore industry, including operational needs and challenges, is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++).
• Experience with machine learning and deep learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and data processing tools (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn).
• Knowledge of advanced AI topics like computer vision (CNNs, object detection), PINNs, generative models (GANs, VAEs), LLMs, NLP, or time-series analysis.
• Familiarity with model deployment and MLOps (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, GCP) to build production-ready solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, deploy, and maintain AI solutions in real-world settings (e.g., handling large-scale data, optimizing model performance).
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and self-motivation with a results-oriented mindset.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and with non-technical stakeholders.

• Lead the design and development of end-to-end products leveraging advanced AI techniques such as image recognition, Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), generative AI, natural language processing, or predictive analytics, etc. to solve complex real-world problems.
• Implement full-scale Machine Learning (ML) pipelines from data ingestion and cleaning to model development, deployment, and monitoring to ensure robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including engineers, surveyors, data scientists, and maritime experts, to identify challenges and deploy AI solutions.
• Stay abreast with cutting-edge AI advancements, experiment with new frameworks and techniques, and share best practices across teams and with stakeholders.
• Lead testing, deployment, and optimization of AI applications to meet performance and security requirements.
• Provide technical support, training, and guidance to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
