JOB SUMMARY

Provides advanced hands-on technical services and practical application guidance to students and faculty in an engineering research and instructional setting. Supports the instructional and research mission of the college by maintaining the mechanical, electrical, and material aspects of the laboratories and specialized equipment in various engineering laboratories such as Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Robotics.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s, technical, vocational, or related degree and/or certificate from an accredited institution of higher education or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current, valid, and unrestricted driver’s license

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years directly relevant experience.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certificate in an engineering technology field
SolidWorks CSWA Certification
Safety Certification

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Previous experience working with customers and/or in higher education
Previous related industrial experience

ABILITIES

Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE

Extensive knowledge of appropriate safety standards
Extensive knowledge of basic programming and equipment, related to the assigned area
Extensive knowledge of engineering materials and proper specifications for components, related to their assigned area

SKILLS

Demonstrated consistency using excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and strong presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the department (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, CAD/CAM software)

Responsibilities

(PRIMARY LOCATION FOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES) OUR MARIETTA CAMPUS IS LOCATED AT 1100 SOUTH MARIETTA PARKWAY, MARIETTA, GA 30060.

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains and repairs engineering lab equipment, including higher level research equipment, and maintains associated records
  2. Prepares engineering lab equipment for engineering lab courses and purchases parts and/or components for machines and/or specimens
  3. Prepares and oversees the correct operation of research lab equipment
  4. Trains faculty and graduate students in proper usage and maintenance of equipment
  5. Assists students and faculty with advanced fabrication of components, lab projects, student projects, test specimens and research parts
  6. Maintains inventory and contributes to best safety practices ensuring students receive proper training and follow safe practices in accordance with appropriate standards
  7. Completes periodic training courses and maintains knowledge and skill with changing technology for fabrication, maintenance, and assembly
  8. Provides guidance regarding safe equipment operation and implementation of laboratory procedures. Prepare training documentation for end users
  9. Provides support to the college with maintenance by fabricating and repairing university equipment, including advanced research equipment
  10. Provides advanced support to the college by performing college related tasks (i.e., equipment set up, material handling and distribution) for multiple departments
  11. Procures equipment or components and materials needed for fabrication, assembly, and/or repair of laboratory systems
  12. Manages and ensures appropriate inventory levels of spare parts, supplies, and/or equipment needed
  13. Ensures the use of set guidelines and practices for general laboratory organization and cleanliness
  14. Assists in the oversight of assigned technicians and/or student assistants responsible for the execution of projects related to lab organization, operations systematic inspection, detection, and correction of incipient failures of mechanical and electrical equipment, including advanced research equipment
  15. Serve as a resource for engineering lab technicians and trains in relevant and needed areas
