Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. There’s more to it than tubes, roads, buildings and bridges. This is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so we’re ready for the 21st century and beyond.
Day-to-day, your focus will be on delivering designs, drawings, information, calculations and enhancements that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving. You’ll make sure assets are safe, working and compliant; develop your own solutions; and be a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.

As a Chartered Engineer, as part of the Fire Engineering team, you could be:

  • Responsible for delivering Fire Engineering services throughout the TfL Estate, defining scope, controlling life safety and other business risk and compliance with associated standards. A in-depth working knowledge is required of Building Regulations Part B, BS 9999, BS 9992 and BS 7974 and knowledge of TfL Fire Standards would be advantageous.
  • As a systems-based fire engineer, you could be embedded within projects and you would be responsible for scoping, site monitoring and delivery of fire safety systems throughout the network. This would involve site inspections, preparation of technical reports, assurance and handover of active and passive fire safety systems during the process. You will engage with relevant stakeholders within TfL, LFB and external contractors. You will need a good knowledge of British Standards and TfL Standards would be desirable. You will work though out a projects life cycle, including feasibility and delivery of operating and maintenance information.
  • In either case you could be working under delegated authority to review and approve Fire Strategies and or fire systems design and or installations for .

As a Senior Engineering Leader you will look after a team of direct reports for, including resource management, TfL’s visions and values, their development under Our People Leaders framework.
The more teams you’ve been led, the better. But it’s important you bring a passion for the TfL Vision and strategy too. That’s because, wherever you join us, you’ll explore work of unparalleled scale, scope and variety across a unique range of projects, as you build your career and expertise. So come and bring on tomorrow, as an Engineer at TfL.
We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to represent the city we serve, which will help us become a more innovative and efficient organisation.
