Job Description The Senior Engineering Manager will lead engineering delivery for critical building services and installations within a major transformation program for fossil-free steel production. The role is responsible for coordinating and delivering engineering activities across HVAC, VVS, potable water, BMS integration, and sprinkler systems to ensure safe, cost-effective, and timely execution of the Cold Mill Complex at the Luleå site. This position operates within the Transformation Office supporting future steel mills and plays a key role in enabling construction and commissioning readiness through robust engineering leadership, interface management, and technical decision-making. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage engineering activities for large-scale brownfield and greenfield CAPEX projects, with primary focus on building services including ventilation, heating/VVS, potable water systems, and BMS/HVAC integration. Own interface coordination and constructability reviews (gränsdragning) to identify clashes, reduce rework, and optimize plant layouts. Ensure engineering deliverables meet safety, quality, regulatory, and project requirements throughout design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. Coordinate interdisciplinary engineering management (projekteringsledning) across internal teams, external consultants, equipment suppliers, and construction subcontractors. Challenge design-to-cost proposals, support procurement alignment, and track engineering cost forecasts and performance. Govern and support the Engineering Management Office to improve engineering support services, workflows, and partner performance. Drive technical decisions related to HVAC, sprinkler systems, BMS integration, and plant equipment layouts with focus on operational reliability and start-up readiness. Monitor engineering schedules and ensure timely delivery of drawings, specifications, IFC documentation, and certifications required for construction and commissioning. Mentor and lead engineering team members, promoting collaboration, a safety-first culture, and continuous improvement. Qualifications Required Minimum 10 years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in hands-on engineering leadership roles; minimum 5 years of professional experience working in Sweden. Proven track record managing engineering delivery for large industrial projects within sectors such as steel, pulp & paper, refinery, oil & gas, or similar heavy industries. Deep technical expertise in HVAC systems, VVS, potable water systems, sprinkler systems, and BMS/HVAC integration, aligned with Nordic conditions and standards. Strong experience in interface coordination, constructability reviews, and aligning technical solutions with project objectives related to safety, cost, and schedule. Fluency in both English and Swedish, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to challenge forecasts, control engineering costs, and drive on-time delivery from engineering partners and suppliers. Nice to Have Project management certification (e.g., PMP, IPMA) or equivalent training. Civil engineering education or experience related to heavy industrial plant projects. Experience with brownfield mill upgrades and start-up coordination in heavy process industries. Familiarity with Swedish and European codes and standards for building services and industrial installations. Accountable for engineering delivery for the Cold Mill Complex in Luleå within the Transformation Office. Team & Interfaces Leads building services engineering management and collaborates with Construction Management, engineering consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and site stakeholders. Deliverables & Success Approved engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, IFC, as-built). Completed interface and constructability reviews. Engineering cost and schedule adherence. Engineering readiness for construction and commissioning. Tools & Work Environment Uses standard heavy-industry engineering and project tools (CAD/BIM, document management, scheduling, cost control, BMS/HVAC).
