Description

The Senior Engineering Manager role is a key accelerator for Technology and DevOps transformation. The Senior Engineering manager collaborates with IT Product Manager, IT Tribe Leader, other members of the product squad to build functional capabilities as well as perform technology upgrades and enhancement.

TECHNICAL/ FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven experience managing engineering teams across a wide array of technologies and platforms
  • Proficient in the design, implementation, and management of cloud-based applications and platforms
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and upskilling Middleware and DBA teams
  • Experience reengineering and migrating large complex application to modern technology and architecture ensuring improved scalability, maintainability, and performance
  • Proven experience in cloud technologies and platforms – AWS, Azure, OpenShift
  • Experience working with modern DevOps platforms – Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Git
  • Knowledge and understanding of web and API technologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker)
  • Experience working with enterprise integration technologies, API gateways, and message queues is preferable
  • Experience with financial operations (FinOps) and budget management
  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and best practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of Generative AI and its applications in technology and business contexts
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and Agile ways of working
  • Experience working with distributed technology teams across infrastructure, architecture, and security
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills

EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Proven experience (15+ years) in engineering management, platform management, or IT operations
  • Strong expertise in cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure) and architecture
  • Experience with financial operations (FinOps) and budget management
  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions

Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical design, implementation, and maintenance of modern cloud-based software platforms and applications across the agile SDLC in a DevOps mode
  • Build a technology roadmap inclusive of topics such as modernization, cloud migration, DevOps evolution, tech debt reduction, and others in conjunction with key stakeholders
  • Define and implement the cloud strategy aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices. Provide technology leadership for cloud migration initiatives and drive cloud-first strategies
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager, Tribe Leader, and Business team to align application and platform capabilities with business needs
  • Incorporate and prioritize technology-related items in the product roadmap and backlog. Implement technology roadmap items as prioritized
  • Serve as the single point of contact and key SME for all technology-related topics pertaining to the products in scope
  • Lead the implementation and management of IT service management (ITSM) processes, including incident, problem, change, and service management
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure resilience for all applications in scope
  • Monitor system performance and implement proactive measures to address potential issues
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., DORA, GDPR) and best practices. Collaborate with security teams to implement and monitor security policies and procedures across IT operations
  • Collaborate with various internal and external technology teams – AXA GO, Architecture, Security, Network, and others
  • Adopt a hands-on approach in influencing and guiding day-to-day technology and engineering activities
  • Identify and implement Engineering KPIs in line with product and business KPIs. Use KPIs to identify required tech enhancements, create corresponding backlog items, and implement them as prioritized
  • Perform all ITPM and Asset Management tasks and coordination for assets in scope (e.g., pen-tests, patching)
  • Collaborate with technology and finance teams to develop and manage budgets related to cloud services and IT operations
  • Analyze spending patterns and provide insights to drive financial accountability within the team. Implement cost management strategies to optimize cloud resource usage and minimize expenses
  • Manage an engineering team and perform all people management tasks – regular 1:1 meetings, leave management, performance management, and others
  • Lead future-looking skills needs analysis to ensure the necessary skills are available in line with BU priorities and roadmaps. Build high-performing engineering teams by hiring top talent, both permanent and via partners
  • Define, execute, and monitor individual mentoring, coaching, training, career, and development plans for all team members in line with the skills needs analysis
  • Establish and encourage knowledge management best practices such as documentation, knowledge-sharing sessions, hackathons, etc. Build and maintain centers of expertise for the chapter, organizing and running local Centers of Excellence (CoE) and Communities of Practice (CoPs)
