Bright was founded in 2019 by a founding team from McKinsey’s Banking Practice (Petko Plachkov and Avi Patchava) and InMobi Data Scientists (Varun Modi and Avi Patchava). The core team is ex-InMobi Engineering and Data Sciences, recently joined by senior leaders from McKinsey. Bright is a data-driven, fast-paced execution culture that will build a Global Consumer FinTech, all functions operating from India. What is the team & role about? Senior Engineering Manager to join our leadership team. You will be responsible for leading and scaling high-performing engineering teams, driving technical excellence, and collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver innovative and scalable systems. This role demands a unique combination of deep engineering expertise, strong people leadership, and strategic execution. What will you do? Team Building & Management Hire, grow, and retain top engineering talent across multiple engineering domains. Mentor engineering leads and junior managers on architecture, execution, and people leadership. Build a culture of ownership, performance, and continuous learning. Define and implement processes and engineering metrics to drive system and team efficiency. Manage performance evaluations, career growth plans, and team structure scaling. Core Engineering & Technical Strategy Translate abstract business requirements into robust, scalable architecture and system design. Drive the development of internal platforms to enable team efficiency and long-term scalability. Lead the design and delivery of distributed, data-heavy systems with high reliability and performance. Own the technical roadmap and long-term platform strategy in alignment with business goals. Ensure engineering best practices across architecture, code quality, testing, and deployment. Program Execution & Cross-functional Collaboration Partner with Product, ML, Infrastructure, and Business stakeholders to deliver complex, high-impact projects. Oversee planning, execution, and delivery across multiple cross-functional initiatives. Own financial planning and resource allocation for engineering projects, ensuring optimal ROI. Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership. Ideal candidate profile looks like? 8+ years of total engineering experience, with 3+ years in engineering leadership roles (including managing managers). Proven track record of building and scaling distributed or data-heavy systems. Experience leading cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects. Deep understanding of platformization and internal tooling strategies to boost developer productivity. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills. Experience with budgeting, TCO, and engineering resource planning. Nice to Have Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth startups or tech-first organizations. Familiarity with SRE practices, observability tools, and performance monitoring.
