Position Summary: The Senior EHS Specialist provides strategic and technical leadership for all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs at the manufacturing site. This position ensures regulatory compliance, drives EHS performance improvements, and fosters a culture of safety excellence throughout plant operations. The ideal candidate brings deep manufacturing experience and a proactive approach to risk reduction and employee engagement. Key Responsibilities: EHS Program Development & Implementation Design, develop, and implement comprehensive EHS programs tailored to manufacturing operations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), Confined Space Entry, Machine Guarding, Fall Protection, Hot Work, Hearing Conservation, and Emergency Response. Conduct gap analyses to assess the current state of EHS systems versus OSHA, State, and corporate requirements; establish and execute improvement plans accordingly. Develop and maintain written procedures, training modules, and inspection checklists to ensure consistent application of safety and health standards across all departments and shifts. Establish leading and lagging indicators to measure program effectiveness, monitor compliance, and track performance improvement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, and Quality) to embed EHS best practices into daily work processes and decision-making. Develop and lead behavior-based safety (BBS) programs that encourage proactive reporting, hazard recognition, and employee-driven safety improvements. Establish and maintain training and competency programs to ensure employees, contractors, and supervisors understand their EHS responsibilities and regulatory obligations. Create and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans, coordinating with local emergency services, fire departments, and first responders to conduct drills and ensure readiness. Lead continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and strengthen the site’s overall safety culture. Safety & Health: Conduct and lead risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and ergonomic evaluations to identify and mitigate workplace hazards. Manage incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive action implementation. Maintain OSHA logs, safety performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement toward injury and incident reduction targets. Leadership & Continuous Improvement Serve as a technical resource and mentor to production, maintenance, and engineering teams. Lead internal EHS audits, inspections, and management reviews, track and close out findings. Support new equipment installations, process changes, and facility projects to ensure EHS considerations are built into design and operation. Establish safety committees and promote employee engagement in EHS programs. Drive a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. Qualifications & Requirements: Required: Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field or significant track record of applicable working experience. Minimum 10 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong working knowledge of OSHA, DOT and state safety regulations. Demonstrated success leading EHS programs that improve compliance, reduce risk and strengthen safety culture. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization. Preferred: Professional certifications preferred: CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent Key Competencies: Leadership and coaching in a production environment.
