SUMMARY

The Senior EHS Specialist is responsible for leading and continuously improving NAI’s safety and environmental programs. This onsite role supports both strategic and operational EHS initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and driving a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. The Specialist works closely with site leadership, employees, and the corporate EHS team to achieve world-class performance in safety and environmental metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of EHS experience in manufacturing or repair operations; California-specific regulatory experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements.
  • Strong training and employee engagement skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic continuous improvement plans.
  • Solid understanding of environmental compliance programs.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Highly motivated, accountable, and capable of managing multiple high-priority projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    Must be available to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED EDUCATION SKILLS OR TRAINING:

  • Project management skills
  • Professional certifications, e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and improve EHS programs including IIPP, HAZCOM, LOTO, Confined Space, and other critical safety systems.
  • Lead strategies to enhance safety metrics and employee engagement across all levels.
  • Serve as the site’s primary resource for safety and environmental programs, building trust and rapport with frontline employees.
  • Support regulatory inspections, inquiries, reporting, and recordkeeping in accordance with corporate and legal requirements.
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Provide support for industrial wastewater permits, sampling, and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental agencies and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Facilitate impactful EHS training sessions and support emergency response planning and drills.
  • Conduct regular EHS assessments and inspections, including safety and emergency equipment.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigation, and corrective/preventive action processes, as well as supporting employee status in the event of injury.
  • Create and maintain a safety metrics dashboard to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support EHS software systems and corporate initiatives including audits and metrics reporting.
  • Lead the site Safety Committee and contribute to capital projects and budget management.
  • Communicate EHS performance and progress to all levels of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain EHS management systems for tracking, reporting, and trending injuries and near misses.
  • Complete and maintain required certifications and training to maintain compliance with emergent Cal/OSHA and OSHA programs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • While this role does not have direct reports, the EHS Specialist leads the site Safety Committee and influences cross-functional teams.
