INTERVIEW DATE: 13 OCTOBER 2025
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is a busy unitary authority in east Lancashire. Blackburn and Darwen are vibrant towns surrounded by beautiful countryside and within easy reach of Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Preston, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
The Council has been a unitary authority for over 25 years and has a multi-disciplinary Public Protection and Environmental Health Service. Links with co-located colleagues in the Licensing and Trading Standards teams makes for the service being known for its can-do attitude and problem-solving approach to enforcement.
We now have an opportunity to work in our Business Compliance Team which deals with food safety and standards, infectious disease control, health and safety at work compliance and safety at the local football stadium. We also work closely with public health colleagues on a healthy catering award.
The ideal candidate will have experience of food safety compliance work, but we are willing to consider applications from those who hold the degree in Environmental Health and are willing to continue their professional development with us and work towards registration with CIEH. Candidates in this position will be placed on grade G (£35,412 to £39,152) until registration is attained.
You must have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated to work alone but also be a team player. In return we can offer a friendly working environment and our commitment to a great work-life balance. We can work from home using a range of IT applications to facilitate this. Annual leave of 26 days per year (31 days after 5 year’s service) plus bank holidays. Access to car leasing scheme and subsidised leisure memberships is available.
