Senior Environmental Health Officer - Private Sector Housing

  • Location: Welwyn | Hybrid (minimum 2 days in the office per week)
  • Contract: 12 weeks, starting ASAP
  • Sector: Environmental Health, Housing, Local Government

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our Private Sector Housing team. This role is crucial for leading on housing standards, managing complex complaints, overseeing housing grants, and guiding a small team of technicians and admin staff.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Investigate and resolve private sector housing complaints.
  • Apply HHSRS assessments and ensure housing conditions meet legal standards.
  • Oversee the delivery of housing grants and improvement schemes.
  • Provide leadership and technical support to a small team.
  • Liaise with landlords, tenants, and partner agencies to ensure effective communication and compliance with housing standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • HHSRS Certification (2-day training in an environmental health context).
  • In-depth knowledge of private sector housing legislation and housing grants.
  • Proven experience in environmental health and team leadership.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
