Description:
The CDFW, Central Region has an opportunity in our Habitat Conservation Program for a proactive and independent person to conserve Central California’s unique fish and wildlife, and their habitats. CDFW, in its capacity as a trustee and responsible agency, has jurisdiction over the conservation, protection, and management of fish, wildlife, native plants, and habitats necessary for biologically sustainable populations of those species. Although currently a limited term position, it may become permanent. As a Caltrans Advance Mitigation Liaison for CDFW, you will:
Work independently and with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Liaison Unit and the Mitigation Banking Unit as well as other departments in CDFW to coordinate and process advance mitigation projects in support of Caltrans’ Advance Mitigation Program to fulfill mitigation for Caltrans’ Lake and Streambed Alteration agreements and Incidental Take Permits under the California Endangered Species Act.
Assist in the review and processing of CDFW mitigation banks with CDFW, assist with the preparation of Regional Conservation Investment Strategies, and review, process, track and permit advance mitigation credits within CDFW, including Mitigation and Conservation Banks (Banks) and Mitigation Credit Agreements (MCAs).
Provide technical support, develop procedures, guidelines and standards, and develop regional approaches and positions in coordination with CDFW and Caltrans headquarters staff on advance mitigation.
Research species and habitats in proposed for Banks and MCAs and conduct biological field reviews of proposed Banks and MCAs.

Working Conditions
The position requires the use of a computer for several hours each day, the completion of office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; and attendance at meetings and participation in conference calls. The position may require travel throughout the Region including overnight travel, early mornings, late nights, hiking over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain, use of a 4-wheel drive vehicle (including all-terrain vehicle), and work in inclement weather. A valid California’s driver’s license is required to drive to meetings and field sites. The position may require the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as CDFW staff.
