Under the direction of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), as a member of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (Department), Inland Deserts Region Habitat Conservation Program the incumbent independently identifies problems, develops courses of action and performs work to develop and draft species take permits and authorizations under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA), through Incidental Take Permits, Consistency Determinations, and their amendments and extensions. Specific duties and responsibilities are as described below.

This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

Working Conditions
The position is in an office setting that requires the use of a computer for several hours each day, requires sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; attendance at in person or virtual meetings and participation in conference calls. The position may require up to 20% travel throughout the state including overnight travel, early mornings, late nights, hiking over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain, use of 4-wheel drive vehicle (including all-terrain vehicle), and work in inclement weather. A valid driver’s license is required to use state vehicles for the purpose of driving to meetings and field sites. This position includes the possibility of an office-centered telework agreement based on the Department’s current Telework Policy. As a condition of employment, the incumbent may be required to wear an appropriate uniform consistent with CDFW’s Operations Manual (Section 12901) for various work situations, including field surveys and public interaction, both within and outside the Region as required by the supervisor.
