Are you looking for an opportunity to manage one of the most important wetland complexes on the Pacific Flyway? The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is looking for a highly motivated individual to oversee wetland management and public use at the ~25,000 acre Los Banos Wildlife Area Complex which includes Los Banos, Volta, North Grasslands, O’Neill Forebay, Little Panoche, San Luis Reservoir, and Cottonwood Creek wildlife areas. Under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for first and second line supervision of permanent and seasonal staff; management of wildlife, habitats, water and water quality; hunting programs; environmental review, monitoring and permitting; land acquisition; program budgeting; grant and contract oversight; and general administrative duties. The position requires effective coordination with Sacramento and Regional Wildlife and Lands Management staff as well as with federal, state and local agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and the public. The incumbent may serve as acting Environmental Program Manager or Acting Regional Manager requiring more broad knowledge of the Department’s legal, policy; political and management issues.
In order to be eligible for this position, you must either be transfer eligible or take and pass the following exam.

Working Conditions
Work is both in an office and in the field. Must be able to work outside in extreme temperatures, walk on uneven terrain, deal with mosquitoes, ticks and other stinging/biting insects, rattlesnakes and other wildlife. This position may require working weekends, holidays, non-traditional hours and outdoors during adverse weather. State housing residency is available but not required if vacant housing is available.
