Environmental Test (ET) is an engineering organization that supports all programs across Raytheon. The ET organization provides testing capability for every phase of the product life cycle from prototype to production. Environmental testing includes mechanical shock, electrodynamic vibration, salt fog, climatic environments such as temperature, altitude, and humidity, high temperature quartz lamp testing, structural testing, test fixture design, and custom instrumentation installations and data acquisition support.
Environmental Test is seeking a Principal Test Engineer for the Environmental Test Vehicles (ETV) group. The ETV group designs, builds, and provides field test support for the collection of flight test environmental data for all air launched weapon systems. The Test Engineer will be responsible for performing planning, vehicle design, development, build, integration verification, and field/flight test support for multiple missile programs. The Test Engineer will also provide estimates for new vehicle builds as well as perform technical, cost, and schedule oversight of the work performed by members of the group.
This position is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of Five (5) years of relevant experience.

  • Technical writing experience in test planning, analysis, or reporting.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience with instrumentation like (accelerometers, thermocouples, strain gages, load cells, and data acquisition systems (Dewetron, DeweSoft, LabView, Agilent/Keysight Benchlink, Somat.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience designing electrical circuits and creating electrical schematics.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  • Preferred engineering majors include Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical.
  • Experience working with commercial environmental test equipment to include vibration test systems and thermal chambers.
  • Experience using CREO Schematics application.
  • Experience working with vibration control systems and software.
  • Experience with solid modeling and analysis software applications.
  • High situational awareness and ability to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Current DoD secret or TS/SSBI clearance.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop instrumentation and data acquisition plans for new vehicle builds and older vehicle rebuilds.
  • Design and model instrumentation layout, data acquisition system placement, and associated harnessing for new vehicle builds using CREO Schematics.
  • Lead program reviews to include consent to ship, test readiness reviews, and design reviews.
  • Train team members and other support personnel in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the instrumentation and data acquisitions systems onboard all vehicles.
  • Support flight testing at offsite locations to include international travel.
  • Create schedules and budgets and track progress of team to ensure they are met.
  • Implement engineering best practices to ensure test vehicle build quality and reliability.
  • Communicate status of ongoing efforts with ET leadership and internal program customers.
