JOB SCOPE/SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Estimator to join our team. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for providing and/or coordinating full estimating services on large, complex projects for engineering consulting, owner subconsulting, and contractor support estimating functions, the ideal candidate will have experience working as an estimator in each of these roles. This role requires familiarity with standard estimating concepts, procedures, and practices within the industry.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Extensive knowledge of diversified estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, cost control systems, market indices, and contractual arrangements.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent combinations of education, training, and/or experience).
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in construction estimating and related functions.
  • Eligibility to qualify and pass AACE Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) or Certified Cost Professional (CCP) examination is considered an asset.

Responsibilities
  • Review and incorporate historical data (e.g., purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports) into unit cost and unit labor hour figures.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and automate the use of software tools for estimating.
  • Calculate labor, material, and equipment costs for the scope of work.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, and determine scope of work and required content for the estimate.
  • Coordinate the total estimating effort for assigned projects.
  • Provide complex conceptual, budget, or definitive estimates for final estimating input on complex projects.
  • Provide technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.
  • Automate cost estimating software and mentor other project estimators.
  • Ensure accurate calculation and application of indirect costs, escalation, and risk analysis for contingency.
  • Interface with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors to provide an expert understanding of cost relationships, data, and models.
  • Track awarded contracts, including estimating extra work, change orders, and material procurement.
  • Assist project managers in the development of bid tabulation forms for bidding.
  • Collaborate with the contracts department during inquiries and evaluation of submitted bids.
  • Recommend design options based on constructability, cost, engineering quality, and availability of materials.
