Michels Canada is looking for a Senior Estimator, Civil to join our growing preconstruction team! Working directly with a team of estimators and proposal specialists, the estimator will be bidding on Civil infrastructure projects related to open cut trenching, large diameter tunneling, micro tunneling, shaft construction, structural form work and foundations. This position can be based out of our Coquitlam, BC office, in our Canadian headquarters in Nisku, AB, Calgary, AB or Concord, ON.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent trade experience.
- Minimum 10 years of construction cost estimating and field experience.
- The desire to win.
- Experience with a large General Contractor.
- Led pursuits valued from $10 to $250 million.
- Knowledge of self-perform estimate and productivity.
- Understanding different construction methods, planning, scheduling, and sequencing.
- Knowledge of bid preparation, quantity take-off, trade contractor procurement, pricing, and bid closing.
- Understanding of contract terms and identifying risks and opportunities.
- Knowledge of bid processes and contract delivery methods.
- Ability to lead successful teams.
- Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with owners, peers, and industry representatives.
- Experience estimating Water/Wastewater, Open Cut and Tunnel projects.
- Experience with Heavy Bid estimating software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Prior supervision experience is a plus.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers. Follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Provide support to the Senior Project Manager during tendering phase of all projects. Assemble accurate, timely and well-organized estimates and new project set-up documents, including bids, construction management, design builds, cost estimates and control budgets.
- Utilize your technical abilities to analyze drawings and specifications. Coordinate tender process and maintain a good relationship with clients, subcontractors, consultants, vendors, end users and suppliers. Create and issue quotes/proposal submission documents.
- Review bid requirements for projects, prepare and attend site walkthroughs and project site meetings, review and confirm geotechnical conditions, draft risk matrix and prepare take-offs. Assist in creating preliminary budgets for all successful tender projects and change order pricing.
- Assist with the overall management of major infrastructure projects from pre-construction phase until completion.
- Other duties as needed.
