POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in estimating for general construction projects, including commercial, residential, and custom home builds. You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project plans and specifications, and collaborating closely with project managers and clients to ensure competitive and profitable bids.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

✅ Extensive Knowledge of Construction – Strong understanding of building methods, materials, codes, and industry standards.
✅ Advanced Estimating Expertise – Proven ability to perform detailed quantity take-offs, develop competitive bids, and create accurate cost forecasts.
✅ Software Proficiency – Skilled with estimating tools (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Sage, or similar) and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
✅ Analytical & Detail-Oriented – Exceptional ability to review blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications with accuracy.
✅ Communication & Negotiation Skills – Confident when interacting with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
✅ Leadership & Teamwork – Ability to lead estimating efforts and coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams.
✅ Problem-Solving & Risk Analysis – Skilled at identifying potential issues and providing value-engineering solutions.
✅ Time Management & Organization – Capable of handling multiple tenders, deadlines, and priorities effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of estimating experience in general construction (commercial, residential, or institutional).
  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Experience working with design-build and tendered projects.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and local construction regulations (asset).
Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for all phases of construction (labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors).
  • Review and analyze drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Lead the bid preparation process, including take-offs, pricing, and tender submissions.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to solicit competitive pricing and verify scope of work.
  • Collaborate with project managers to transition awarded projects smoothly from estimating to execution.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing records, and vendor relationships.
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities, risks, and value-engineering options.
