JOB SUMMARY:
The primary job responsibility of the Estimator is to act as lead estimator on any project in their assigned division, perform all tasks necessary to develop a complete & accurate estimate and present the estimate to the Client with oversight from the Director of Preconstruction Services or Senior Estimator. Hill & Wilkinson estimators are expected to develop the ability to provide schematic pricing for clients based on a project type and historical cost data.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Communicate with Project/Design Team requesting/confirming/coordinating level of completeness, milestone dates, early packages, etc.
- Thoroughly review all documents for completeness, coordination & incorporation of previously accepted alternates (plans, specifications, narratives, renderings, etc.).
- Perform detailed take-off and scope development for all trades required for the project. Review take-off/scope development prepared by assisting estimators.
- Organize take-off in the estimate template and maintain the integrity of the template (formulas, format, etc.).
- Prepare & maintain a list of subcontractors to be invited to bid project. Distribute proposed list to Director or Preconstruction Services, Division Manager & Project Manager (if identified) for approval and/or revisions.
- Prepare & organize all documents required for estimating/bidding and upload to Building Connected.
- Maintain job folder and preconstruction document organization.
- Monitor subcontractors during bid time to ensure sub coverage on bid day.
- Communicate with Clients, Design Consultants, subcontractors & H&W staff throughout preconstruction phase (ie. precon RFIs, pre-bid meetings, minority requirements, scope coordination, estimate breakdown, alternates, etc.).
- Lead/attend Pre-Bid Conferences and site visits.
- Lead Estimate Kick-off Meeting.
- Prepare, manage & track project preconstruction phase schedule and action items.
- Receive and fully evaluate subcontractor bids for assigned trades. Coordinate between trades so that there are no overlaps or gaps in scope of work.
- Communicate with Director of Preconstruction Services, Division Manager, Project Manager and/or Superintendent to determine required project logistics (Site Planning & Logistics scope, staging, schedule, sequencing, …).
- Determine all required costs from Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) (permits, taxes,…).
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree preferred in a related field (construction/engineering) OR experience in construction related field.
- Honest, dependable, responsible & attentive.

- Able to read Civil, Architectural, Structural, and MEP drawings and specifications.
- Proficient with technology and software used by H&W Preconstruction team (Excel, OST, Blue Beam,…).
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Manage time without supervision
- Effectively & clearly communicate - both oral & written.
- Understanding of the scope of work typically provided by each trade.
- Understanding of all general & H&W preconstruction procedures.
