JOB SUMMARY

Initiate own technical programs, solve complex technical problems using both internal and external knowledge data bases, bring high technical credibility in field of expertise to the organization, recognize all aspects of SRNS needs in field of expertise, lead teams to solve complex technical problems.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical f ields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems. Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area of technical expertise. Recommend engineering/ technical research programs for others in group and assist in that planning. Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise, be responsive to organization needs in answering complex problems where judgment also has to be applied, organize and lead task teams to solve problems and fully utilize technical resources within the company, at assist in solutions. Identify technical areas where individual special knowledge can solve complex technical programs of interest to the company and DOE, take much initiative in this effort. Is often ahead of management in recognizing need. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks for department. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements. Communicate results verbally and in manuscript form. Represent the company and SRS in technical areas to oversight groups and professional societies. May mentor less senior professionals in communication skills. Maintain technical expertise and bring credibility to the organization through recognition as a technical expert by the company and DOE through such activities as internal and external technical reports and/or publications, involvement in national professional organizations and contributing significantly toward attaining the Site mission and goals. Mentor less senior professionals as a means of transferring technical knowledge and insight. Recommend engineering and technology research, development and application programs for others and assist in the planning of such programs.
Provide Structural Mechanics subject matter expertise to Design Engineering Staff. Primary responsibilities include equipment qualification (seismic analysis and testing), advanced FEA stress-strain analysis, impact analysis, dynamic loads, design of structures, systems and components, extreme load engineering (seismic, explosion analysis, and impact), field support and trouble-shooting, and structural integrity. Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
Work Hours:
A 40 hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Typically, an advance degree and experience -A Ph.D. degree and about 12+ years’ experience, OR a MS degree and 15+ years’ experience, OR a BS degree and about 18+ years’ experience.
MS Degree in Structural Engineering, or current registration as a Professional Engineer in structural engineering.
Experience/Skills:
Has mastered technical field, is recognized as internal expert, has depth of knowledge to tackle any problem in field. Contributes to advancing knowledge.
Significant experience in reinforced concrete structural analysis using ANSYS software, design, analysis, qualification, inspection, fitness-for-service and integrity management, failure analysis and repairs of systems and components in the nuclear power and the process industries, and in the DOE complex.

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE / NNSA.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience is preferred.
