The Opportunity We’re excited to offer a new opportunity within our Engineering Underwriting team for a Senior Field Underwriter—a role that plays a key part in delivering an exceptional and trusted experience to our Branch and Broker Partners across Canada. As a Sr. Field Underwriter, you’ll be the face of our underwriting expertise in the field. You’ll take ownership of complex risk decisions, build strong and collaborative broker relationships, and deliver proactive, solutions‑focused service that supports profitable growth. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical underwriting strength with relationship‑building and field engagement. What you’ll do Underwriting Leadership & Risk Evaluation Assess and evaluate complex new and renewal submissions within assigned regions across Canada. Apply deep technical knowledge to rating, underwriting, documentation, and exposure analysis. Analyze reports to determine loss potential and exposure levels. Identify all potential risks and apply loss control and risk management principles. Establish appropriate premiums and ensure underwriting decisions align with corporate strategy. Broker & Market Engagement Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing, competitor landscape, and regulatory considerations. Act as a regional leader in promoting strong team dynamics and supporting production goals. Conduct regular broker visits to build relationships, uncover opportunities, and drive profitable mutual growth. Support and promote the Equipment Breakdown line of business and ensure strong portfolio performance in the region. Champion the Cross‑Border Facility by training and supporting brokers and branches on offerings and underwriting requirements. Promote retention opportunities across Commercial Lines and position Equipment Breakdown coverage effectively at renewal. Technical Guidance & Coaching Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to commercial lines underwriters at all levels. Support Junior and Intermediate Underwriters in assessing equipment breakdown risks and elevating underwriting capability within the region. Contribute to building a strong underwriting culture focused on excellence, learning, and collaboration. What you’ll bring 5+ years of insurance or underwriting experience (Equipment Breakdown experience is an asset). Strong negotiation and relationship‑management skills. Demonstrated leadership capabilities—formal or informal. Strategic thinker who can make sound decisions and champion the brand. Customer‑focused mindset that builds trust and strengthens relationships. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, present, and collaborate effectively. Solid analytical and decision‑making abilities. College diploma or undergraduate degree. CIP designation in progress or completed (preferred).
