Description
Job Details Job Location: CFB Tucson - TUCSON, AZ 85713 Position Type: Full Time Salary Range: $67,874.10 - $93,327.00 Salary Position Summary: The Senior Financial Analyst — Finance Systems, Budget & Analytics is a Finance-led role responsible for strengthening how the Finance team plans, reports, and operates using reliable data, practical automation, and disciplined financial modeling. Reporting to the Vice President of Business Administration, this position serves as the Finance department’s data-and-process translator—someone who understands accounting transactions and workflows deeply and can turn that understanding into better budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and “make-it-easier” tools. This role is intentionally hybrid across four areas: (1) senior-level accounting fluency, (2) strong data analysis capability, (3) practical automation/tool-building skill, and (4) deep process/transaction-flow understanding to optimize how work moves through Finance and adjacent teams. The focus is Finance-owned deliverables (budget system, forecasting, finance KPIs, finance reporting pipelines, finance process automation), while partnering respectfully with IT Data/Analytics and other organizational leaders who own enterprise datasets, governance, and strategic plan reporting. Scope & Interfaces: Finance-owned scope: budget system ownership, financial planning cycles, finance KPI reporting, forecasting/scenario modeling, finance process automation, finance data definitions that tie to the GL, grants, restrictions, and inventory valuation logic. Enterprise coordination: works through IT Data/Analytics for approved tools, governance, security, and enterprise datasets; does not duplicate enterprise data ownership. Strategic coordination: partners with Strategic Initiatives (and other KPI owners) to align Finance measures/inputs to enterprise KPI definitions and reporting calendars. Key Responsibilities: Budget system ownership + user enablement Serve as Finance owner/administrator for the budgeting system, including configuration, maintenance of structures, templates, workflows, user access, and annual cycle setup. Own budget system training and enablement: job aids, office hours, training sessions, user support, and adoption troubleshooting. Partner with Finance/accounting and IT support to ensure actuals imports are accurate, timely, and validated; resolve issues and document repeatable checks. Budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling (Finance planning outputs) Lead the preparation of Finance planning models and packs: budget vs actual, rolling forecasts, scenario modeling (funding, volume, staffing, cost drivers), and leadership-ready summaries. Partner with the Director of Finance, Senior Accountant, and department leaders to gather assumptions, validate results, and convert analysis into planning decisions. Maintain repeatable planning calendars, templates, and standardized variance logic to improve consistency month-to-month and year-to-year. Finance KPI reporting and performance dashboards (Finance lens; aligned to enterprise definitions) Develop and maintain Finance KPIs and Finance-owned operational measures (examples: liquidity/working capital indicators, reserve or runway measures, key efficiency and sustainability ratios, cost drivers, selected inventory/throughput measures Finance owns). Build repeatable reporting outputs using the organization’s selected tools (currently Power BI, plus Excel/Power Query and other approved tools as appropriate), with emphasis on validation, documentation, and refresh discipline. Coordinate with IT Data/Analytics and other KPI owners to ensure Finance KPIs align to enterprise definitions, data governance standards, and reporting calendars. Feeding America Reporting / NAR (Finance-owned inputs) + coordination Coordinate and compile Finance-owned components required for Feeding America reporting (including finance and inventory-related inputs that originate in Finance or require Finance validation and tie-out). Serve as Finance’s point of coordination with the organization’s owner of network reporting processes (e.g., Strategic Initiatives), ensuring Finance inputs are timely, accurate, and supported. Process optimization + transaction-flow automation (the “push-button” maker) Map Finance workflows and transaction flows (close support, allocations, grant billing support, imports, reconciliations tooling, reporting pipelines) to identify friction points, rework loops, and control risks. Build and maintain practical automations and tools that reduce manual effort and error (e.g., Excel/VBA tools, Power Query pipelines, standardized templates, workflow automations where appropriate) with clear documentation and controls. Establish “definition of done” expectations for recurring Finance reporting/automation deliverables (validation steps, tie-outs, versioning, and support documentation). Finance data stewardship + audit-ready documentation Maintain Finance data definitions and calculation logic that tie to accounting reality (GL, grants, restrictions, inventory valuation concepts), ensuring that Finance reporting can be explained and defended. Support audit readiness by maintaining documentation for key Finance models, KPI datasets, planning tools, and reconciliations that may be requested by auditors or funders. Collaboration and staff development Serve as a collaborative partner across Finance and key departments—building tools people will actually use, and improving clarity of inputs/outputs. Support skill development in Finance through pairing and coaching on reporting discipline, modeling habits, and tool usage. Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned. Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the staff member for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Qualifications Qualifications: Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, or closely related field (required). 7–10+ years progressive experience in finance/accounting analysis with demonstrated ownership of budgeting, forecasting support, reporting, and process improvement (nonprofit experience strongly preferred). Experience administering or supporting a budgeting system, including user training and annual cycle management (strongly preferred; required if this role will fully own the budget system). Demonstrated ability to deliver repeatable tools, templates, and reporting outputs that improve speed, accuracy, and decision-making. At least 21 years of age; valid Arizona Driver’s License with a safe driving record. Preferred: Experience in food bank/distribution environments (inventory flow concepts, cycle counts, throughput metrics, valuation impacts). Familiarity with Feeding America reporting concepts and the nature of Finance’s contributions to network submissions. Comfort with basic SQL concepts (helpful) and strong willingness to learn. Experience creating standardized templates and controlled workflows that strengthen audit readiness and reduce manual effort. Bilingual English/Spanish. Skills & Knowledge Strong accounting fluency and discipline: ability to ensure Finance analytics and outputs align with internal control expectations and financial reporting logic. Mastery-level Excel (required): complex formulas, pivots, structured models; Power Query preferred. Ability to learn and use organizational reporting tools (currently Power BI) to produce reliable Finance dashboards and reporting packs. Practical automation mindset: ability to build “make-work-easier” tools (e.g., VBA and other approved automation approaches) with documented logic and validation steps. Strong process orientation: understands transaction flow, upstream/downstream impacts, and how to improve handoffs and reduce rework. Collaborative approach with IT Data/Analytics and other reporting/KPI owners; respects governance, security, and data stewardship boundaries Communication skills sufficient to translate analysis into usable outputs (reports, dashboards, short summaries) and coordinate inputs with multiple stakeholders. Core Competencies Ensures accurate, controlled, and GAAP-aligned Finance outputs. Builds and maintains models, scenarios, and planning tools to support strategic decisions. Translates financial and operational data into actionable insights and dashboards. Identifies workflow inefficiencies and creates tools to streamline Finance operations. Works effectively across Finance, IT, and organizational teams to align reporting and KPIs. Clearly conveys complex financial information and reliably delivers high-quality results.
