Position Status: Permanent full-time
Work Hours: 35 per week

POSITION SUMMARY

Overall, this position provides trusted advisory services to assist in meeting the overall organizational strategic financial goals. This is completed through providing customer service excellence while working to ensure effective internal controls, fiscal planning and management reporting. Acting as the team leader for non-supervisory staff, this position provides work guidance / training on a required basis, by scheduling, coordinating, and assigning the work of others regarding financial processes, budget preparation, financial analysis for strategic initiatives, financial reporting and revenue operational activities. Furthermore, this position provides, develops, and monitors effective, efficient and timely financial reports / information for the use of Staff, Management, and Council. Through the knowledge of the relevant Provincial Legislation, this position also contributes in the establishment of procedures and monitoring systems to ensure accurate and timely financial processes related to property taxes, development charges and other municipal revenue sources such as User Fees.

EDUCATION

  • Community College Diploma relative to the area of responsibility.
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants with:
  • University degree and enrolment in a recognized Accounting program leading to Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years of current related experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Good understanding of business processes and financial management methods.
  • Good understanding of financial principles and practices; sound technical knowledge relative to financial reporting.
  • Sound understanding of municipal government, its operations and services.
  • Knowledge of relevant Acts and Legislation governing the financial operations of municipal government, including the Municipal Act, Assessment Act, and the Development Charges Act.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to report, explain, provide clarification, and persuade to gain approval.
  • Demonstrated initiative, and ability to make decisions involving multiple routine tasks, affecting department level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently referring only major problems to supervisor / managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity involving regular work with confidential information.
  • Proven ability to provide sound financial advice.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills involving regular ingenuity, and development of complex, new and improved methods, procedures, systems, etc.
  • Demonstrated capability to act as a leader within a functional area, including providing advice and training.
  • Organization skills with specialized attention to detail to avoid errors and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and guide interdisciplinary team-based discussions to increase staff morale, team building, and team spirit.
  • Technology Aptitude:
  • Demonstrated intermediate computer skills to utilize various technological devices and programs while adhering to cybersecurity and best practices are followed.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
