Description

The United Church of Canada is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst for the Finance Unit. The Finance Unit ensures efficient and effective accounting operation, financial reporting and budget management for the General Council Office and its related entities. In addition to these regular financial management tasks, the Finance unit also provides advisory services to congregations around financial and compliance matters; oversees the nationally sponsored property and liability insurance coverages; and administers various capital assistance programs. The unit also has responsibility for the information technology needs of the General Council and Regional Council offices.
The Senior Financial Analyst is an integral member of the Finance team, responsible for preparing and analyzing accurate financial reports that drive strategic decision-making. They collaborate closely with various units in General Council Office to provide insights on financial performance, monitor budgets, and support the preparation of high-quality management and statutory reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related fields
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is a mandatory requirement
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance roles. Experience in public accounting is considered a strong asset
  • Thorough knowledge of methods of financial analyses, modeling tools, internal controls, organizational structure, policies and procedures
  • Solid knowledge of Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organization;
  • Experience with investment accounting and complex revenue recognition for Not-for-Profit organizations;
  • Strong computer skills in the use of various software applications - Office 365, SharePoint, Dynamics, One Drive, Teams, Zoom, and other online platforms;
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, data modeling);
  • Hands-on experience with ERP system (Microsoft Business Central, or similar);
  • Critical thinking approach with strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving;
  • Well-developed organization, time management, planning and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities;
  • Flexibility with the ability to effectively deal with changing situations or priorities while maintaining a positive demeanor and outlook;
  • Skilled at performing numerical analyses, drafting precise and concise reports and emails;
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong team player and self-motivated towards inspiring colleagues to address opportunities and challenges in a collegial and respectful manner, acting as coach, mentor and trainee
  • Positive client relations attitude and a willingness to apply skills and business acumen to matters raised by internal and external stakeholders.
