Western Energy is hiring a Senior Financial Analyst to join our team in our Calgary location!
Western Energy Services Corp. (Corporate) is an oilfield service company which provides contract drilling services through Horizon Drilling in Canada and Stoneham Drilling Corporation in the United States. In addition, Western provides well servicing through Eagle Well Servicing in Canada, and provides rental services through Aero Rental Services in Canada.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst will be working with our Eagle Well Servicing internal reporting team, and plays a key role in delivering financial insights that drive business decisions. This role involves preparing and analyzing financial and operational reports, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and partnering closely with operations, marketing, and the broader finance team. The position also ensures timely completion of all compliance activities and liaises with other team members.
We’re looking for a proactive, organized, and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Recent completion, or working towards completion, of a recognized accounting program (CPA)
  • 4 – 6 years of relevant experience
  • Direct experience completing financial analysis and financial reporting
  • Solid MS Office skills, including advanced skills in Excel
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP and Management Reporter
  • Experience in the oilfield services industry would be considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly when dealing with operational and marketing personnel
  • Strong time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is essential
Responsibilities
  • Develop and distribute monthly and quarterly financial reports and executive packages.
  • Build and maintain budget and forecast models.
  • Analyze financial performance, including P&L, cost centers, rig profitability, margins, trends, ROI, and variance analysis.
  • Provide financial analysis and support for marketing initiatives, bids, and RFPs.
  • Maintain and improve the bid tool used for customer quotes.
  • Prepare field financials and HSE reports for operations.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal tax requirements (e.g. PST, GST, fuel tax).
  • Support fixed asset counts and reporting.
  • Prepare weekly revenue and exception reports.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during quarterly and annual audits.
  • Lead balance sheet reviews and P&L analysis.
  • Coordinate capital and operating budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Partner with marketing on monthly performance reviews and analysis.
  • Work with the Assistant Controller to improve financial systems and processes.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
