About the job you're considering As a Senior Firmware Test Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation, helping ensure the reliability and safety of embedded firmware of our state-of-the-art surgical robotic systems in Pittsburgh, PA. You’ll collaborate across engineering disciplines to develop and execute robust test strategies that validate firmware performance, integration, and compliance with regulatory standards. Your role Lead the design and execution of verification (test) strategies for embedded systems in surgical robotics. Develop and implement test plans, protocols, and automated test cases for firmware components. Partner with firmware, software, hardware, and systems engineers to ensure thorough test coverage. Conduct integration, robustness, and regression testing across firmware modules. Create and maintain verification documentation, including traceability matrices, test reports, and defect logs. Use tools like oscilloscopes, JTAG debuggers, and protocol analyzers to support low-level firmware testing and debugging. Manage defect tracking and resolution using platforms like Jira, and support root cause analysis and validation of fixes. Communicate testing goals, progress, and results clearly to stakeholders and leadership. Support future test automation initiatives and explore emerging technologies like AI-assisted testing for embedded systems. Your skills and experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. 4+ years of experience in embedded firmware testing, or 2+ years with a Master’s degree. Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++ and familiarity with microcontroller architectures. Hands-on experience with debugging tools and test equipment for embedded systems. Familiarity with software configuration tools (e.g., Git), defect tracking (e.g., Jira), and requirements management. Preferred Qualifications Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, USB, RS232, RS485, and TCP/IP. Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS or SafeRTOS.
